William Shakespeare - staging the world

William Shakespeare - staging the worldWilliam Shakespeare never goes out of style. The quotes of Shakespeare are as vivid as ever in both literary and natural language, and will probably take an even bigger part in modern London when Shakespeare’s London is being brought to life again during the latter part of 2012.

As a part of the London Festival, the British Museum will stage a major exhibition on the world of Shakespeare in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company from July 19 through November 25 in 2012.

By exploring Shakespeare’s importance in shaping a new sense of national identity and the pivotal role of the Shakespearian playhouse as a lens on the world outside London, interpreted through the innovative perspective of the great poet and playwright plays, the exhibition will provide a unique insight to the emerging role of London as a world city in 1612.
